Comparison of different types of focusing probes in pulsed eddy current testing AIP Advances AIP Publishing

These extra connections allow the probe to inform the oscilloscope of its attenuation factor (10×, 100×, other). The oscilloscope can then adjust its user displays to automatically take into account the attenuation and other factors caused by the probe. Pressing the button will either disconnect the signal (and send a ground signal to the ‘scope) or cause the ‘scope to identify the trace in some other way.

Anxious and nonanxious individuals show differences in brain activation in response to emotional stimuli. EEG research indicated that anxious individuals show increased brain responses for emotional faces, irrespective of the emotional expression (Rossignol, Campanella, Bissot, ai implementation & Philippot, 2013). Moreover, anxious individuals show abnormal brain activity in hippocampal areas during the disengagement from threat (Price et al., 2014). These differences in brain activation might co-occur with differences in performance on the dot-probe task.

Strategies for sequential programs can be modified to make them suitable for concurrent applications. Conventionally, testing includes designing test cases and checking that the program produces the expected results. Static analysis techniques can detect problems like lack of synchronization, improper synchronizations, predict occurrence of deadlocks and post-wait errors in rendezvous requests. To counter this indeterminism, the program must be executed many times under various execution environments. Most of the time, the program runs correctly, and the bug is visible only when specific conditions are matched.

As viruses evolve during outbreaks, nucleotide substitutions can emerge in primer or probe binding regions and alter the sensitivity of PCR assays. Thus far, we detected 12 primer–probe nucleotide mismatches that had occurred in at least two of the 992 SARS-CoV-2 genomes. The most potentially problematic mismatch is in the RdRp-SARSr reverse primer (Table 2), which probably explains the sensitivity issues with this set (Figs. 1 and 2). Oddly, the mismatch is not derived from a new variant that has arisen, but rather that the primer contains a degenerate nucleotide (S, binds with G or C) at position 12, and 990 of the 992 SARS-CoV-2 genomes encode for a T at this genome position (Table 2).

With 10 MΩ, it would be difficult to see the effect of input resistance at the DUT. To see how input resistance affects the signal at the test point, Figure 4 shows the effects of the 200 Ω resistor soldered into the test fixture to exaggerate the effect. The reference waveform is the source signal, and Channel 1 is the source signal loaded by the 200 Ω resistor’s input resistance.

  • Two of these studies did not find an attentional bias for angry–neutral, happy–neutral, or angry–happy face pairs (Heim-Dreger et al., 2006; Pineles & Mineka, 2005).
  • To understand what turning that screw does, we direct our attention to the probe body.
  • In the HSS example, the system’s receiver was able to tolerate a lower signal level and the slowing of the edges.
  • In contrast, other studies measure probe discrimination times, which means that participants react on the identity of the probe.

A Heisenbug is an error that changes or disappears when an attempt is made to isolate and probe them via debugger, by adding some constructs such as synchronization requests or delay statements. Musk is a controversial figure for a reason – his particular business interests – internet connectivity, space and manufacturing – mean his decisions can be inextricably intertwined and can conflict with Britain’s domestic and foreign policy goals. Musk’s proposition in front of an invited audience of business leaders was that supercomputers that use advanced algorithms to mimic human contact might present more attractive future companionship model for humanity than real-life living breathing friends. The Labour leader has remained united with Rishi Sunak, the US, and most recently the EU in pushing for “humanitarian pauses” in the fighting, while supporting Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas. It follows calls from senior Labour figures London mayor Sadiq Khan, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar and Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham, who broke ranks to also challenge Sir Keir’s stance. The goal of the GP-B experiment is to measure the geodetic effect to an accuracy of ~0.01%, and to measure the frame-dragging effect, which has not previously been directly measured, to an accuracy ~1%.

Especially when testing non-human primates who have less experience with observing photographs or symbols, it might be worthwhile to keep the stimulus material as naturalistic as possible. When selecting the right probe for their application, most users typically look at the probe’s bandwidth, dynamic range, and perhaps even the input resistance specification. When evaluating a probe’s loading characteristics, most users see the 10 MΩ input resistance value and conclude the probe has sufficient loading capabilities. A critical probe specification almost always overlooked is the probe’s input capacitance. When measuring signals at lower frequencies, the probe’s capacitance has a reactance that is very high, and the probe loading is not as much.

This degenerate nucleotide appears to have been added to help the primer anneal to SARS-CoV and bat-SARS-related CoV genomes5, seemingly to the detriment of consistent SARS-CoV-2 detection. Earlier in the outbreak, before hundreds of SARS-CoV-2 genomes became available, non-SARS-CoV-2 data were used to infer genetic diversity that could be anticipated during the outbreak. As a result, several of the primers contain degenerate nucleotides (Supplementary Table 4). A current probe generates a voltage proportional to a current in the circuit being measured; as the proportionality constant is known, instruments that respond to voltage can be calibrated to indicate current. On the other hand, active probes are almost always vendor-specific due to their power requirements, offset voltage controls, etc. Probe manufacturers sometimes offer external amplifiers or plug-in AC power adapters that allow their probes to be used with any oscilloscope.

Performance probes are required to measure signals much higher in frequency than 100Hz. Probes are available today with bandwidths that range from several GHz up to 33 GHz. Since performance probes cover a wide frequency band, it is important to understand how the input impedance of a performance probe changes as the input signal increases in frequency.

In anxious individuals, a general vigilance for threatening stimuli was found, irrespective of the type of stimuli. Studies that used facial stimuli found that anxious people show an attentional bias toward emotional faces (e.g., Bradley, Mogg, Falla, & Hamilton, 1998; Ioannou, Mogg, & Bradley, 2004; Mogg, Philippot, & Bradley, 2004). Similar results were found in studies that used spider stimuli (e.g., Mogg & Bradley, 2006). The results of dot-probe studies conducted with nonanxious individuals are less consistent. Studies with nonfacial stimuli mostly did not find a bias for threat stimuli (e.g., Mogg & Bradley, 2006; Mogg, Bradley, et al., 2004; Lees et al., 2005). In contrast, some studies with facial stimuli found a bias toward threat (e.g., Tomaszczyk & Fernandes, 2014), some studies found a bias away from threat (e.g., Bradley et al., 1997) and yet other studies found no bias (e.g., Bradley et al., 1998).

Using the probe and accessory tip’s s-parameters, the scope software removes much of a probe’s loading effects to more closely resemble the signal in its “unloaded” state. The loading of this probe at high frequencies creates an eye diagram with an asymmetric look and the rise and fall times of the signal seen by the receiver are slower. While the impedance of these two probes load the HSS signal in different ways, the serial link is likely to continue operating reliably since the eye is still wide open. The combination of resistance and capacitance in the attenuator circuit can create a low pass filter that limits the useable bandwidth of the probe. To extend the bandwidth, a set of larger capacitors and resistors are typically added to the input.

At the same time, the focusing properties of different probes are compared with the calculated eddy current dissipation power results. Direct comparisons between subliminal and supraliminal stimulus presentations revealed that for fearful facial expressions presentation duration does not have an effect on attentional biases. Fox (2002) compared a stimulus presentation of 500 ms with a stimulus presentation of 17 ms after which the stimuli were masked with a scrambled face. Participants showed similar attentional biases for fear, irrespective of stimulus presentation time.

The characteristic impedance of this system is two 50Ω impedances in parallel or 25Ω. This voltage divider results in a lower voltage than expected at the receiver (RX). A performance tool will set a start time and a stop time for a given transaction in order to measure the response time. But by taking that measurement, that is storing the time at those two points, could actually make the whole transaction take slightly longer than it would do if the tool was not measuring the response time.

However, differences in (emotional) face processing between humans and nonhuman primates are also reported (Polosecki et al., 2013; Zhu et al., 2013). Studies with similar techniques and experimental designs across species need to be conducted to identify the similarities and differences in primate emotion processing (for a review, see Yovel & Freiwald, 2013). Where B is the magnetic flux density and SA and SB are the areas of surface A and surface B, respectively, and SA is equal to SB. Traditional eddy current testing adopts sine wave excitation, while PECT adopts square wave excitation with a certain duty cycle. In the “on-time” period, the primary magnetic field is generated by the excitation coil, and the current in the excitation coil is then abruptly changed to zero.

Quantitative Quality Indicator (QQI) flaw shims are used to establish proper field direction and to ensure adequate field strength during technique development. The QQI flaw shim is the most efficient means of determining balance and effectiveness of fields. The QQI’s are also flux sharing devices and must be properly attach so as not to allow particles to become trapped under the artificial flaw. Application using Super glue is the preferred way of attaching the artificial flaw, but does not allow for reuse of the shims.
